Social work, a professional discipline about helping people, focus on the interaction between human beings and the environment, so that social workers can use professional knowledge to help individuals, groups, families, communities and other adjustment of the context of social environment.
In response to the importance of social work and the needs of professional social workers, in 2015 the Shu-Te University established a bachelor program of social work to recruit students for Four-year Bachelor's Program and the Two-year Bachelor's Program (for continuing education).
The bachelor's degree program focuses on children/family social work, long-term/disabled social work and common social work professional courses, so as to meet the future employment of students. At the same time, students are encouraged to study double degree, cross faculty credit programs, and cultivate cross disciplinary and trans-professional social work ability.
The programs of Four-year Bachelor's Program and the Two-year Bachelor's Program are based on the requirements of social worker examination subjects and internship hours. Both programs’ curriculum and internship hours have achieved the certification of Ministry of Examination,R.O.C(Taiwan). After graduation, students can apply for social worker examination without providing the relevant evidence data of social worker examination subjects.
The advising professors of this BSW all have doctorate degrees in social work related majors. In addition, the professors have both theoretical and practical experience as well as close interaction with the social work practice fields. This is able to provide students in BSW with professional learning, and actively guiding the students to obtain the National Senior Professional and Technical Examination in Social Worker and get long-term care relevant certificates.
BSW intensively incorporates social work practice learning opportunities into the curriculum. At the same time, students must complete at least 400 hours of social work professional practice during the course. Moreover, there is a social work volunteer service team to cultivate students' enthusiasm for helping others and deepen their professional learning in social work.
BSW cooperates with the Department of Marketing Management to set up the "Credit Program for Social Enterprise Marketing", and cooperates with the Department of Product Design to set up the "Credit Program for Social Work Service Design", which domain interdisciplinary expertise for students. In addition, students are also encouraged to study double majors or supplementary majors in the Department of Child and Family Services to obtain the qualifications of family education professionals certified by the Ministry of Education and increase their future employment competitiveness.
